I believe that everything happens for a reason
When I was two years old, I broke my right femur bone, by jumping off of a little tikes easel. My Mom took me to the hospital while my Dad was home laid up after foot surgery. She had to leave my 4 year old brother with my Dad. We were in the hospital for three days, since they had to put me under anesthesia in order to cast almost my whole body. It was hot pink and called a hip spica cast, since it covered my body from my waist down to my toes on one side and then to my knee on the other side. I was wheeled around in a wagon most of the time and had to learn how to walk all over again. When I got the cast off about eight weeks later, I went to physical therapy for about nine months. My Mom took a leave of absence from work to take care of me, my four year old brother and my Dad, who was still recovering from his surgery.
Before and after my broken femur, I also got scarlet fever a lot and had rashes from head to toe and really bad sore throats. When I was in Kindergarten, I was diagnosed with a temporary case of arthritis that caused many problems in my daily life as a five year old. The arthritis was caused by an undiagnosed strep infection, which is interesting because to this day I have never tested positive for strep throat. The arthritis made it impossible for me to hold a crayon or a pencil, to get up from the floor by myself and I couldn't sit criss-cross-applesauce. I could not walk up or down the steps, so I had to scoot on my butt or be carried. I took anti-inflammatory medicine for about six months, but saw doctors for a little over a year. I even went to physical and occupational therapy to get better faster. Since then, I have broken 3 more bones, my left wrist and both of my ring fingers. I have also sprained my right ankle, got shin splints and somehow hurt my rotator cuff on my right shoulder.
These injuries have definitely pushed me to work hard to recover more quickly, but also have given our family a lot of stories to tell others. They caused some set backs in my life too by trying to keep up with school work, sports or just in daily life. I have been told that I have a high tolerance for pain and that I am a strong person. I have always done what the doctors and physical therapists have told me, which has made me even stronger. After all of these injuries, I saw physical and occupational therapists and decided I wanted to pursue that as a career. I am hoping to get into a physical therapy program in college in order to help others, who experience the same things. This explains why I believe that everything happens for a reason.
